No plan to impeach Nyako —Adamawa PDP
The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked a media
report accusing it of a gang-up with the
Adamawa State House of Assembly to impeach
Governor Murtala Nyako.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Joel
Madaki, who stated this through a press release
he signed and made available to journalists in
Yola on Wednesday, also said that the PDP had
nothing to do with the current action of the
State Assembly, but that the lawmakers were
only carrying out their constitutional
responsibilities.
The statement said the development in the
Adamawa Assembly was long awaited by
Adamawa people following the antics of the
executive, stressing that if the governor was
found wanting following the House
investigation, he and any political office holder
might be impeached according to the
constitution.
It also stated that the purported plan to impeach
Governor Nyako as contained in a certain
national daily was a figment of the writer’s
imagination.
“The 1999 Nigeria Constitution provides for
impeachment of elected officers when they are
found to have violated its provision, especially
as regards to corrupt practices,” the release said.
According to Madaki, the governor better face
the myriad of problems facing his
administration, which includes lack of
development, defection of members from APC,
corrupt practices, injustice and rather than cast
aspersions and blames on the PDP.
It also acknowledged the efforts of the state
House of Assembly for giving the state
government two weeks in which to pay arrears
owed teachers and other categories of workers
in the state.
“The PDP commended the decision of the
Assembly for giving an ultimatum for the
payment of civil servants two months
outstanding salaries and the illegal deductions
from the May 2014 salary of workers,” said the
release.
The PDP implored the honourable members to
ensure that the executive implemented the 2014
budget to the letter as approved through the
performance of their oversight functions.
“We applaud the Adamawa State House of
Assembly under the able leadership of Rt. Hon,
Ahmadu Umar Fintiri for resolving to stay in the
PDP, the party on which platform they were
elected rather than following Governor Nyako
to unknown destination,” the release stated.
