Resign honourably, Gumi to Jonathan

RENOWNED Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to resign honourably, as he was allegedly taking steps which could compound security issues in Nigeria. Gumi said on Monday, in a statement he entitled: “Isreal counter-terrorism team in Nigeria,” that “the president is now taking steps to compound the issue and turn Nigeria into another global arena and battlefield for the filthy neocolonial squabbles by interests groups.” According to him, it was in the news that “President Jonathan said an Israeli counter- terrorism team would arrive in Nigeria to help in searching for the schoolgirls, who were abducted last month.” This, he said was a sad development, which confirmed that Jonathan did not meant well for Nigeria. “The abduction of these innocent girls is entirely his responsibility and he should bear the consequence. Instead of him to resign honourably, he is now taking steps to compound the issue and turn Nigeria into another global arena and battlefield for the filthy neocolonial squabbles by interests groups. “Israel is a state that practices state terrorism. The hands of Israel are stained with Palestinian blood. The state of Israel has killed, maimed and expelled Palestinians from their homelands, with many still in exile in camps. So, how can he that is not clean help when God’s intervention is prayed for? “I believe Jonathan is very insensitive and not serious about the issue. He is looking for ways to breed a wider religious conflict in Nigeria. General Olusegun Obasanjo has already said it. He is taking steps to divide Nigeria,” Gumi said. He was of the view that with Israel in Nigeria, the lives of Muslim, more especially clerics, would be in danger now. “Anybody can be maliciously framed now. Does he really know what Israel represents or means to a believer in God? A nation with historical blood of the righteous in hand. ‘That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.’ Matthew 23:35. “Jonathan wants to turn this evil group, Boko Haram overnight into freedom fighters; otherwise, what is it that other nations cannot do which Israel can do? What added value does he dream of achieving while stirring the sensibilities of a segment of his country men? “We are not unaware of his manipulation of the composition of the military; the basic reason of its ineffectiveness, which is a national crime and now, he wants to sow discord in the fabric of the nation by inviting this very controversial state. It is evident that Nigeria is truly held to ransom by two wicked armed groups. May Allah continue to protect us from all evil and free all the innocent people incarcerated on both sides. Amen,” he said.
