APC Convention: Dawn Of A New Order

Against a hyped expectation of a crisis ridden convention, the just successfully conducted national convention of the APC was a pointer to greater things ahead. It was a convention guided by maturity, mutual respect and the onerous task of saving Nigeria from the suffocating grips of the leechlike PDP. Going by the orderliness and discipline of members of the party at the convention, it was clear the days of “democrazy” are over. On may call the convention a national funeral of the PDP and a new dawn for democracy as we see it in other climes. Simply put, the convention was a synchronised process of updating existing democratic culture and tendencies needed to build the kind of country every Nigerian will be proud of. Clearly the ruling PDP tried strenuously to compromise the quality of the convention by sponsoring moles to create artificial chaos that could have robbed APC the chance to showcase the maturity needed to consolidate the confidence millions of Nigerians have in its capacity to sweep the mess created in Nigeria and cleanse the system. It was laughable reading the congratulatory message of Olisa Metuh, the ever insulting PDP scribe who’s pastime is throwing invective at APC and its leaders. Apparently confused about the moral standing of a PDP he still like to believe is the biggest political party in Africa, Metuh went on a self glorification sermon selling an outdated idea. It was an insult listening to Metuh preaching what could easily pass for self-indictment to the APC. In his warped opinion the new APC chairman, Chief John Oyegun should ensure an issue-based opposition that will purposefully and constructively engage and challenge the PDP with decency and maturity as prescribed by democratic tenets and principles. Talk about the pot teaching the kettle cleanliness. One may likely think it’s another Olisa Metuh from another planet teaching the tenets of another PDP that exist on the same distant planet. How could somebody ever imagined there are people within the PDP that understood and believed in “issue-based opposition” all the while PDP was guiding Nigeria towards disintegration by fanning the embers of ethnic and religious sentiments to fill the deficits created by the 16 years of misgovernance. It was obvious Metuh’s message was intended for other people other than Nigerians. How else could he convince Nigerians he truly believed in his sermon when they see him as anything but decent and decorous when it comes to politics and politicking. Who is it among the APC founding fathers that could claim not to have been insulted by the PDP through the uncouth mouth of Olisa Metuh. The last time I checked, Metuh had an ultimatum to retract and apologies to Gen. Buhari for the weighty libelous allegations he heaped on Gen. Buhari to cover the ineptitude and nil capacity of the government he serves to contain the raging Boko Haram saga. Before him, Reuben Abati had to offer the General public apology for crossing the lines of decency on the same issue. To even hear the words “decorum and decency” from these guys, one need to double check their dictionary to make sure there wasn’t a silent update. But for his poor grasp of the general idea of democracy, Metuh could have seen that the convention was only a formal declaration of the “Broom Revolution” that started with the successful merger of different political parties which, by the way the “decorous and decent” PDP did everything to scuttle.
