AHEAD of the 2015 general elections, a faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benue State led by Mike Gbasha, Usman Abubakar and Gen. Indila Garba (rtd) has started mobilising for membership registration, saying that it will reject imposition of candidates.
Addressing mammoth crowd from the three senatorial districts in Gboko yesterday, Gbasha said the meeting was convened to educate members on the need to remain focus and woe more people into the fold.
Gbasha spoke against imposition of candidates by few individuals who are already taking advantage of their exalted positions in the party to intimidate others. He charged intending members to turn out en-mass for the registration exercise, which will hold shortly after the harmonisation committee completes its assignment.
Also in a remarked, Gen. Garba (rtd) observed that APC is the only party that would advance the cause of democracy in the country.
“APC will implement programmes that will be seen by human beings and not spirits and angels. These would be unlike what we hear today about projects that are only seen by angels and spirits,” Garba noted.
Abubakar also advised members to be wary of those defecting and swelling the ranks of the party. He made the caution against the backdrop of recent events where new entrants usually caused internal wrangling within the party.
He further advised the leadership of the party to refrain from imposition of candidates, saying the interest of the ordinary people should prevail.
Prior to the Gboko gathering, the national secretariat of APC, through its national ex-official, Nelson Alapa, issued a statement, describing it as illegal.
The statement asked members to dissociate themselves from the meeting, noting that nobody has the authority to convene such except the national secretariat.
