Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was on the brink of collapse.
Kayode said he dumped the party about seven months ago to join All Progressives Congress (APC), which he described as a progressive party, instead of sinking with the PDP, which he said had lost focus.
He also challenged the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, to come out and explain to Nigerians where he was on the day former President Olusegun Obasanjo forwarded his letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, Al-Mustapha should have directed his challenge to a member of the military of his own rank or to one of Obasanjo’s aides “because Obasanjo is too busy to respond to such challenges.”
Kayode added that the former CSO should be concentrating on answering questions raised by the letter Obasanjo sent to President Jonathan rather than throwing challenges of that nature knowing fully who Obasanjo is.Speaking with journalists in Kano Government House yesterday, Fani-Kayode stated that Obasanjo was too busy and had better things to do than avoid Al- Mustapha’s challenge to a public debate.
“There are issues that Al-Mustapha ought to have addressed such as his where about the day the letter was made public. Perhaps he should have told the public where he was when the letter was made public.
“Is there any truth in the assertion that he was in North Korea to consult with his old friends that were deeply involved with him during the Abacha regime when they were organising a killer squad. If that wasn’t what he was doing then is he sightseeing there? I am asking these questions and the public are also keen to know the truth.
"If it is true that Al-Mustapha is treading in this dangerous course, he should retract his steps because the Nigerian people may not be as forgiven as he thinks and he may not be as lucky as he was the last time,” the former minister said.
Fani-Kayode disclosed that his mission to Kano was to tour some projects executed by the state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which he expressed satisfaction, stressing that such gigantic projects could be reflected at the national level if Kwankwaso was given the opportunity to occupy a higher office.
According to him, I am very impressed with all the human-oriented projects Kwankwaso has executed within a short period of time, particularly the flyovers, which have transformed Kano into a mega city in the North-west region.
He said: "Honestly, I am very impressed with Kwankwaso’s efforts as a governor in transforming his state. I am here to discuss national issue with him and I took time to go round the town to inspect some of his projects. I was quite impressed for what he has been doing.
“I was not surprised that Kwankwaso has done so well, because he was one of Obasanjo’s strong disciples. He was the PDP member in 1999 when the party was real PDP. He was the state governor from 1999 to 2003 and went to national level as the minister of defence before he returned to the state as the governor for the second term.
“I am very proud of him as he has also taken a wonderful position by defecting from PDP to APC."
The former minister in the Obasanjo’s government hailed the decision of the governor to dump the PDP for the APC, “instead of sinking with the party, adding that Kwankwaso has now pitched his tent with a progressive party, whose mission, among others is to liberate the country from total collapse and take it to the Promised Land.
