[ChannelsTV]Pockets Of Violence Recorded During Kano LG Election

"Unidentified number of people have been injured in Kura, Shanono and Bebeji lacal government areas of Kano state as political thugs attempted to snatch ballot boxes." Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that violence erupted when some political thugs attempted to snatched ballot boxes in those areas. “Some people carrying cutlasses invaded Kura polling units; they destroyed the ballot boxes when resisted by the majority of the voters.” Confirming the incidences of violence in some local government areas, Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso says there is no course for alarm as security agents are on top of the situation. “From the report I am receiving, I learnt that election materials were not supplied to some polling centres in time as well as cases of violence in some areas but no one was killed and our security operatives are on top of the situation”, the governor said Meanwhile, Police Crisis Control Units are said to have contained the violence in the affected areas. Kano residents were are at the polls to vote local government chairmen amidst presence of tight security as markets and other business centres were temporarily closed down. As early as seven, electoral officers assigned to the 44 local government areas of the state converged at the Kano Independent Electoral Commissioned and by eight materials were distributed to various polling units. Over seven million people are estimated by electoral observers to have turned out for the exercise.
