Ekiti group tasks INEC on credible election

The Progressive Youths, Ekiti State Chapter has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure the June 21 governorship election in the state was free and fair. It stated this in a release jointly signed by its president, Lawal Adegoke-Bamayi and the Director of Media, Information and Strategies, Mr. Femi Awojobi which was made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Saturday. Although the group noted that the burden of electing the most credible candidate rested on the people, it stated that “the electoral empire has a major role to play especially by being neutral and given every party a level playing ground for the people to vote”. “Once the INEC is being seen as being baised, people will loose confidence in it and may decide to take law into their hands and the resultant effect of such development may jeopardise the already tensed political atmosphere in the state and Nigeria as a whole”, the TPY warned. Expressing shock over the must-win-at-all- cost being displayed by some of the candidates, the TPY also advised the electorate to vote a dynamic, progressive and genuine political Institution that will bring rapid developments to the state. “We have been hearing promises in the past but the performance have not been commensurate with such empty promises, except maladministration, poverty, impunity, intimidation, looting and arrongance of the highest order. “Hence the need for the electorate to be sure of the characters and antecedents of the person they wanted to vote for”, it added.
