Osun 2014: AD gov candidate calls for violence-free campaigns

The standard-bearer of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the August 9, 2014 governorship poll in Osun State, Senator Sunday Fajinmi, at the weekend, implored key players and political parties to avoid violence and other acts, capable of disrupting the peace of the state during and after the exercise. Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo after his emergence as the governorship candidate of the AD, at the party secretariat, he said there was the need for all the stakeholders in the election to play by the rule and not resort to violence and bloodletting in the pursuit of their electoral ambitions. He maintained that his resolve to join the Osun governorship race was borne out of the need to pay back the loyalty of people he had been enjoying since joining political terrain in the state. The former federal lawmaker was the only aspirant that stood for election witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was declared winner of the primaries after being nominated by the party chairman, Najeem Alabelewe and seconded by Sunday Oluborode. Senator Fajinmi, who represented Osun East senatorial district in the Senate, listed education, health and agriculture as some of the areas his government would focus on, just as he assured that the state-based industrialists and contractors would enjoy patronage if elected governor. Earlier in his address, the national secretary of AD, Mr Rafiu Salawu, who conducted the primaries, had said the AD was set to relaunch into the reckoning of Osun electorate by fielding a formidable candidate that can make impact at the poll.
