Yobe lawmakers set to defect to APC
Rep. Ali Yakubu Mainasara, representing Potiskum/Nangere
Federal constituency of Yobe State, is set to defect from the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Daily Trust learnt in Abuja yesterday.
Mainasara, who is the only PDP Federal lawmaker from Yobe
State, has been holding consultations with leadership of the
APC in Yobe including Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, sources
close to the legislator told Daily Trust.
The defection according to sources may not be unconnected
with the nomination of Dr. Abdu Bulama as minister, by
President Goodluck Jonathan.
The lawmaker was a top contender for the post. His close
associate Alhaji Ahmad Musa Yellow, said they have since
gone far in preparation for Mainasara’s defection to the APC
When contacted, the lawmaker confirmed to Daily Trust that he
is already holding talks with the APC on the likelihood of his
moving to the APC, but declined further comments
Mainasara’s defection will increase to the number of APC
lawmakers in the House which held a slight majority position at
the beginning of the year before the PDP seized back the
majority position after many APC Reps defected to the PDP.
