"APC has little or no faith in the promises and commitment of PDP"
Newly elected national chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) Chief John Oyegun was yesterday inaugurated
with other members of the party’s new National Working
Committee (NWC).
Oyegun in a speech at the inauguration said the APC has little or
no faith in the promises and commitment of the PDP led
government to conduct a free and fear election in Ekiti.
He said with the recent development beginning from attacks on
APC members and other tactics, there is a need for explanation
by the PDP on its intentions during the Ekiti elections.
“The All Progressives Congress, APC, will not accept the
outcome of the election in Ekiti unless the authorities provide
convincing explanations to the series of questionable
developments in recent times,” he said.
The chairman said his first message to President Goodluck
Jonathan is to discontinue the dangerous trend being pursued
by the PDP as the fall out will be disastrous for Nigeria’s
democracy.
“In the last several days, many developments have occurred that
have exposed the covert and criminal effort to subvert the rights
of the citizens of Ekiti and the country’s electoral law.
“Barely two Sundays ago, our supporters during a peaceful
procession in Ekiti were tear gassed and infact one was killed,”
he said.
Oyegun said Governor Fayemi was also tear gassed and that he
only escaped being shot adding that a week ago, a truck was
intercepted with over 200 boxes of electoral materials by the
security agents in Ekiti while on Tuesday, June 17, two loaded
aircraft with undisclosed cargo, accompanied by a minister of
State landed at the Akure airport.
He said on Wednesday, June 18 , a gang was busted in a resort
owned by one of the campaign managers of another candidate,
thumb printing ballot papers ahead of the Saturday elections
while 22 young men were also caught preparing INEC form
EC8.
He therefore maintained that there is a clear intention to subvert
the elections.
He said the PDP having earlier declared the Ekiti election as
‘war’ is now living true to that promise.
Former Interim national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi
Akande, in his speech, called on the leadership of the party to
make sacrifices to take the party to victory in the 2015 general
elections.
He recalled that leaders of the were jeered at when they came
to register.
“But it is to the credit of our leadership, our members and
indeed all Nigerians who yearn for a truly democratic nation
that we surmounted all the odds and then turned our diversity
into a great advantage,” he added.
