Nasarawa APC Chairman Emerges Amidst Protests

Following the smooth conduct of the state congress yesterday, the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally elected its substantive state officials with Mr Philip Tatari as chairman. Mr Tatari, who was the former commissioner of higher education in Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s administration, polled 862 votes after his only opponent in the contest and state interim chairman of the party, Arc Stanley Buba, withdrew from the contest citing irregularities in the build up to the contest. All positions into the state leadership of the party were filled through unanimous consensus although elections were still conducted and the respective leaders ratified. In another development however, the immediate past Interim Management Committee chairman of the party, Arc Stanley Buba, who was billed to contest with eventual winner has petitioned the national headquarters
of the APC saying the irregularities in the processes leading to the state congress casts doubt on the party’s readiness to be fair and just. Arc Buba lamented that although Governor Al-Makura has good intention for the party being a product of fair and just electoral process, the party he said had been snatched by a cabal that are ruining the good fortunes of the party in the state. Giving reasons for his withdrawal from the race Arc. Buba said “there would be mischief as we go to the congress which is shrouded in secrecy and constantly manipulated and the rules set by national headquarters being disregarded”. He called on the national leadership of the party to ensure that the right thing is done noting that “we cannot accuse other political parties of manipulations and turn around to do worse”.
